I'm Benjamin McKenzie, a Startup Mentor based in Hong Kong. I grew up in the small Scottish town of Fraserburgh, where the harbour, lighthouse, and local football shaped many of my early memories. Today, I help entrepreneurs navigate the complexities of setting up and running businesses in Asia.

After a decade in venture capital and private equity, I now focus on empowering founders to make informed decisions about their business structures, compliance, and growth.

My Journey

Growing up in Fraserburgh, a small town on Scotland’s north-east coast, I developed a passion for understanding how businesses work. I still miss Fraserburgh Harbour Lighthouse and the old days playing football at Bellslea Park. Those early surroundings taught me to value community, persistence, and practical problem-solving. This led me to study at the University of Cambridge, where I completed a BA in Economics.

After graduating, I moved to Hong Kong over a decade ago, drawn by the city's dynamic energy and its position as a gateway to Asia. I spent several years working in venture capital and private equity, evaluating hundreds of startups and growth-stage companies across the region.

Through this experience, I saw firsthand how many promising founders struggled with the administrative and regulatory complexities of company formation. I realized I could make a bigger impact by helping entrepreneurs get their foundations right from the start.
